My name is Ross Contway. You will be looking at some of the artwork I've done in the last fifteen
years. What I try to accomplish when I do a sculpture is not so much to create an exact replica of
a horse, or an elk or anything else I've done. What I try to do is to create an impression of that
subject. I've lived in Montana all my life and for the most part, what you see in my artwork are
things that I've seen or done personally.
I do all of my own casting. I've been doing artwork in some form for 30 years, starting with foundry
work. Being able to cast your own bronzes is something few artists can do because of the investment
in equipment and time. The result of this is that when I finish a sculpture, it is exactly what I wanted,
and hasn't been touched by any other hands but my own.
